Kernel on VMS Front End on NeXT or Unix Machine?

Dear Users,

Anyone managed to get mathematica operating
with the kernel on a VMS machine (Open VMS
with TCP) and the the notebook front end on a NeXT
or a RISC machine, or a unix machine?  I have tried
various VAX equivalent switches in the remote kernels
but the connection is never established.
