Batch jobs

Mathematica 2.2 running on a NeXT.

How does one submit a batch job to MMA from the command line?  
Specifically, I wish to submit a file containing MMA commands to 
Mathematica so that I can avoid an interactive session.  All output is 
directed to a file.
