The Mathematica 2.2.2 installation of Win32s (a set of 32-bit compatibility libraries Micrsoft created for Windows 3.1, but which is usually installed by those applications that need it) did not appropriately check whether you were running under Windows 95 or not. Some of the Win32s system files have the same names as Windows 95 system files, and so the Windows 95 files are overwritten by the installer. Most people I'm aware of who ran into this problem got a dialog box from Windows 95 saying that certain files had been corrupted and offering to reinstall the files from the Windows 95 CD-ROM (which is the correct thing to do in this case). If you're not getting such a dialog box, then you should see if you can find the file on your CD-ROM or another Windows 95 machine and copy it over. Note that this problem was confined strictly to the 2.2.2 version... earlier 2.2 versions and all 3.0 versions do not use Win32s, and all other 2.2 versions did detect Windows 95 correctly (2.2.2 came out somewhat before the first big Windows 95 beta did, and thus we didn't get to properly test this behavior). Also, Wolfram Research tech support (support at wolfram.com) has a patch for the install diskette which causes the 2.2.2 installer to correctly detect Windows 95, so that future installs won't corrupt your system again.
