Dear MathGroup,
Has anyone written a function to do "loess" regression and smoothing in Mma??
"Loess" is an abbreviation for "local regression." People at the old Bell
Laboratories first wrote the algorithm about 15 years ago. For 10 years or
so, S-Plus, Systat, and other commercial programs for statistics have
included "loess" as an option for smoothing data in an x-y scatterplot.
For a reference, see this book and the references in it:
Cleveland, W.S., 1993, Visualizing Data, published by
Hobart Press, Summitt, NJ
Thanks for your help
Dave
