Mathematica 3.0 FrontEnd

I have installed th Mathematica 3.0 version an dI have some problems
with the Front End. My Modifiers keys doees not work and I can not
write fundamental symbols like [, ], { },....etc.

Is it a problem of my X environment? Can anybody help me?
