Problem with `Complete Selection'

I am using Mathematica 3.0.1 on Linux.  The attempt to use `Complete
Selection' always crashes the Mathematica Frontend.  It makes no 
difference whether I invoke the command via the shortcut or via the
menu.  Has anyone observed such a behavior and knows a solution?
