re help

I don't know what's wrong with the machine, but I do met a problem when
using mathematica 2.2.1 for windows NT.
   When I open a notebook, input an expression and press Shift+Enter key
to evaluate it, it just locked the input cell and give no output at
all.
 Could anyone give me some advice?
