ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING AND VISUALIZATION
&
SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING AND VISUALIZATION SPECIALIST
The Scientific Computing Group at NYU's Academic Computing Facility
operates several facilities in support of research and instruction in
mathematics and the sciences. Our resources and services include:
* the Scientific Visualization Center which offers high-end 3D
workstations as
well as color printers and video equipment for recording animations *
the Center for Parallel Computation which offers two high-end systems
with
shared and distributed multiprocessors for parallel computing *
additional single processor systems for high performance computing * a
rich suite of software packages and tools for math and science
applications * collaboration with national supercomputing and research
centers * coordination of Internet 2 applications in the sciences
We are seeking an Assistant Director to lead the Scientific Computing
Group and report to the Director of Academic Computing. In addition we
are seeking an additional staff person to add to the Group.
Candidates for both positions should have the following qualifications:
* A B.S. in a Science program with a significant computer related
component, or a B.S. in a Computer Science program with a significant
applications oriented component. Strong preference will be given to
those with graduate degrees.
* Knowledge of commonly used programming languages, network and
communications protocols, and operating systems. System administration
experience with UNIX and Silicon Graphics systems is especially
welcome.
* Extensive experience with scientific visualization.
* Experience with some or many of the following applications: Amber,
ArcInfo, ArcView, AVS, Cambridge Software, Chain, CHALLENGEcomplib,
Cosmo Code, Cosmo Worlds, Explorer, Gasp, Gaussian 94, Geomview, GRASS,
XGRASS, Image Tools, Image Vision, InsightII, Khoros/DIPcourse, Leda,
LSF, Macromodel, Maple, Mathematica, Matlab, MineSet, Minneview, NCAR
Graphics, OpenGL, OpenInventor, QuantaRasmol, Spartan, Tecplot,
Transform, Visual3, VMD/NMD, Vogl, Xmol, Xplor
In addition, candidates for the Assistant Director position should have
the following qualifications:
* Excellent interpersonal, managerial, written and verbal skills, and
the ability to train and assist faculty in a collegial atmosphere.
* Familiarity with university funding and research activities as well as
seven to ten years of experience in computer-based research and
instruction in the sciences.
