I checked it out some minutes ago. Mathematica 4.0 is out and the student version is announced for August this year. So I have to be patient and wait to upgrade ;-)). -- Hendrik van Hees Phone: ++49 06159 71-2755 c/o GSI-Darmstadt SB 3.162 Fax: ++49 06159 71-2990 Planckstr. 1 mailto:h.vanhees at gsi.de D-64291 Darmstadt http://theory.gsi.de/~vanhees/vanhees.html From: smudge at world.std.com (smudge) To: mathgroup at smc.vnet.net Subject: [mg17665] Re: Mathematica 4 ??? References: <7i34qq$ber at smc.vnet.net> Yours is the first announcement/rumor/hint that version 4 is actually shipping that I have heard. There has been some discussion of when version 4 will be out but the only response was from a couple of people who have seen beta test versions. If my memory serves me correctly, this was a month or two ago. Maybe there are no reactions on the list, but I've already taken contact with the French Mathematica provider, who answered the V4 should arrive in my mail box within 15 days for the MSWindows version, and later (sigh) for the Linux version. A missing feature that people talked about (after conf98) : the possibility of making self-contained programs. I'm wondering if the help files will be more complete on the FrontEnd programming... **************************************** Jean-Marie THOMAS mailto:jmthomas at agat.net Conseil et Audit en Ingenierie de Calcul Strasbourg, France http://www.agat.net **************************************** -----Original Message----- From: ELLIS, Luci [mailto:EllisL at rba.gov.au] To: mathgroup at smc.vnet.net Subject: [mg17665] [mg17641] Version 4 out and NO reaction? I posted this message a couple of days ago, but for some reason didn't show up in the newsgroup until today. I think I posted it on Wed, (May, 19) and it showed up Today (May 21, but who knows when THIS message will be posted). I heard that USENET is slow sometimes, but I didn't believe it. Now I believe it. However, Mathematica for students (of course, version 4) will be available in August...:( I'll have to wait. All of the v3.x boxes at our campus computer shop have a sticker on them that mentions a "free upgrade". I assumed the upgrade mentioned was to v4.0. -Jason ============================================================================== + Jason Wm.
