Yes:

Plot[Sqrt[x^2 - 1], {x, -2, 2}]

And , for ParametricPlot with messages turned off and then on:

Off[ParametricPlot::"pptr"];
ParametricPlot[{x, Sqrt[x^2 - 1]}, {x, -2, 2}]
On[ParametricPlot::"pptr"];
