My guess is that your Red Hat installation choices led to the X font server including Cyrillic fonts on your font path. To make sure, see this FAQ. http://support.wolfram.com/Systems/Unix/Linux/FE/FontErrorsLinux.html If that is the case, then removing the Cyrillic font directory and restarting the font server should fix the problem.
