Try the following:

In[1]:=
Plot[1 + Exp[x], {x, 0, 5}];
In[2]:=
Plot[Cos[Pi x], {x, -2, 2}] ; 
In[3]:=
Plot[Abs[x - 1], {x, -1, 2}];
