Problems with the HelpBrowser

I have a little problem with the Help Browser of Mathematica 4.2!

If I open the Helpbrowser the first time, it will scan the index files, but
the programm dont react. The search is not complete and I must exit
Mathematica 4.2.

Is there somebody who can help me
