A few weeks ago, I announced that Wolfram Research was working on a patch for the Mathematica MacOS X user interface to fix several new problems that have appeared since MacOS X 10.2 began shipping. That patch is now freely available to all registered users of Mathematica 4.2 for MacOS X. This patch is particularly important for anybody who's running MacOS X 10.2, as most of the problems fixed are problems which appear only when running under that version of the operating system. I've included a list of the problems we've fixed at the end of this email. If you have Mathematica 4.2 for MacOS X and would like the patch, you should email Wolfram Research Technical Support at support at wolfram.com You should give them the license number for your copy of Mathematica and ask for the "MacOS X Mathematica 4.2 patch". Sincerely, John Fultz jfultz at wolfram.com User Interface Group Wolfram Research, Inc. 10.2-specific issues ----------------- * Mathematica can suddenly quit when the dock changes sizes (such as when minimizing/restoring windows, or opening/closing applications. * Copying from some applications and pasting into Mathematica prepends a garbage character to the pasted text. * Opening the help browser or option inspector should place the default focus in the lookup field, but was not. * Certain combinations of actions could disable the print command. * Hide/Show Toolbar button was inappropriately appearing in palette windows. General issues ------------- * Newly opened palettes open up behind currently open palettes. * Sometimes, if you copy multiple cells, then paste them, you lose the cell structure. This problem can be made much worse if certain applications which manipulate the clipboard are concurrently running on the system.
