Perhaps you mean something like
SetOptions[$FrontEnd, InputAutoReplacements -> {"mf" -> "MatrixForm", "sf" -> \
"StandardForm"}]
Putting this in Init.m will only get us an error message:
InputAutoReplacements\[Rule]{"->"\[Rule]"\[Rule]",
":>"\[Rule]"\\[RuleDelayed"},
