MathKernel Crash on NonlinearRegress

The MathKernel reliably crashes on the following problem:

NonlinearRegress[data, a Sech[b x^c], {x}, {a, b, c}]

Any reason? Any workaround?

Thanks for any insight.

Cheers, Scott

P.S. Version is 5.0.1.0.
