Have you tried rebuilding the help index?  Look under the help menu.  Under
Linux there is a cache maintained, as well as an init.m file.  Both are
associated with the user.  Sometimes they need to be deleted to get things
to start over.  If you don't have the hardcopy of the Mathematica book you
can look for more info regarding your OS on the site.
