PlotLegend not an option for PLot? 5.1

in 5.1, I was trying to do this

SetOptions[Plot,PlotLegend->{"y","t"}]

  SetOptions::"optnf" (PlotLegend is not a known option for Plot


but when I do help on PlotLegend, it says

?PlotLegend

"PlotLegend is an option for Plot"



Any one knows how to set this option?
