MapThread[#[a] &, {{f1, f2, f3}}]

or

{f1, f2, f3}[a]

This problem also reminds me of a simpler one: Given

   f = {f1, f2, f3};
   a = (* some number *)

what are nice ways of producing the following result?

   {f1[a], f2[a], f3[a]}
