Dear NG,

recently I switched from a Dell notebook to a MacBook Pro. We licensed
Mathematica 5.2.2.0, which is a Universal Binary on Mac OSX. Yesterday,
a colleague sent me a notebook with some intensive computations and
asked me to test the speed on my MacBook.

The results were quite surprising and earned me quite a few smirks from
my fellow coworkers. Here's what I got:

Dell Latitude 505 (1.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM): 263.44 secs

MacBook Pro 17" (2.1 Ghz, 2 GB RAM): 402,18 secs

This means that my MacBook is about 35 % slower than a technically
inferior Windows notebook. Does anybody have experiences with the
performance of Mathematica on different OSes? Has anybody notices
similar behavior between the Windows and Mac OS versions? Any hints or
comments are very welcome.

Kind regards, Malte

p.s.: If you are interested in running the Mathematica notebook on your
Mac, I'm happy to send you a copy by e-mail.
