Hi, I run Mathematica on a Dell Latitude D810 (32bit) and on a double Quadcore
(i.e. 8 kernels, 64bit) desktop with 16 GBytes of Ram, the latest Nvidia
graphics card and 1TByte in a Raid. Both systems run Vista (32 resp 64bit).
I am actually stunned by the performance of the desktop system since it really
takes full advantage of the eight cores. I am using them for data/image
processing and the speed improvement is very close to a factor 7.5. For some
operations I found the desktop to be about 25x faster than my laptop, which I
still regard as quite good.
So in my experience the number of cores might be well worth it!!
