Insanely Large PDFs

Using Export or File -> Save As.. and then creating a PDF from
Mathematica Version 6 creates huge PDFs. If you open the PDF in say
Adobe Acrobat Standard, and then simply resave, the resultant file can
be much smaller.

For example, a notebook that had lots of graphics in it went from 14
megabytes to 400 kilobytes. Presumably, Acrobat is compressing the
graphics and removing any font information that is not required (but
hopefully not stripping out the Mathematica fonts.)

I looked around for an option in Mathematica so that it would save the
PDF's in compressed form and with only the required fonts embedded,
but have not found one.

Does anybody else know how to create reasonably sized PDF's directly
from Mathematica?

Derek
