StyleSheet Question

I have a couple of questions about StyleSheets:

1) Is there any documentation? I searched the Wolfram site and there is 
little to nothing that came up other than specific commands.

2) I have a cell type, NumberedEquation. When I use the option inspector
I set the font to be Times New Roman and the alignment to Centered. The 
alignment works fine and I can watch this change in a notebook if I 
change it to Right or Left. However, I cannot get the font to be 
anything other than Courier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
