Re docs search in Mathematica 6.0...

With Windows, put the cursor into the search field, press Ctrl-a to
select the entire "guide/Mathematica", and just type. No deletion
actions are needed: this will replace what was there.

I imagine there are keystroke equivalents to Ctrl-a for other platforms.

Having "guide/Mathematica" in the search field is really a VERY minor
annoyance in that it appears only the first time after one opens the
Documentation Center. From that point on, searching is no more onerous
than in 5.2: in both, once you've opened the help system at a
Mathematica session and done the first search, you have your old search
term in the field that you must overwrite (or first delete).
