By the way, in response to people who have sent variants on "use
Export", I have.  At least on my mac(s) using v6 and exporting to eps
and pdf, tooltips do not appear to be preserved with
   Export[fname, plot, "EPS"]
   Export[fname, plot, "PDF"]
et cetera.
