Hello,
I had problems with importing from Excel with my MacBookPro 10.4.10. Mathematica V 6.01 complained, but it was not clear to me about what and where it happened. I looked at the .csv file with awk for format checking and discovered that somewhere in the file the format was not as it should be. It was a mistake in the original xls (with some few thousand lines). I corrected it and Mathematica accepted it.
