Ruler

I have Mathematica 7 for the Macintosh. From the Window menu, I select Show Ruler. Sure enough, a ruler appears at the top of the current notebook. It seems to be marked off in centimeters, because it goes from about 2 to about 24 and a piece of A4 paper is about 21 cm across. However, on my MacBook, the distance from the 2 to the 24 is only about 14 cm. Magnification, as shown on the bottom of the notebook, is 100%. How can I get the on-screen ruler to work properly?
