Wow! Are you you in luck Tom.
I would thoroughly recommend a new Apple iMac (my dream 2nd machine is
the new 27" iMac, 1st is a rediculously loaded Mac Pro).
With that you get Spotlight which is both fast and very effective at
searching both notebooks and the Mathematica documentation (after you
put a copy in an accessible directory). And with the 27" iMac you get
wonderful high definition screen to see graphical output.
You also get a great operating system and probably the fastest and
most stable platform for Mathematica.
