SendMail[] on Linux platform not working

I've been trying to send a simple email using the Mathematica SendMail[] function on a Linux machine. I've tried a gmail account and a yahoo account and neither seems to work. Have any of you sent an email from Mathematica in Linux using SendMail[]? If so, what distro are you using? Or is this function not available on Linux? Thanks, Chris
