parallel computing - obsolete functions?

Hi all,
I'm starting to look into parallel computing with Mathematica.
Unfortunately the documentation is not very helpful and, put mildly,
confusing. It seems that a lot of information has been lost in the
transition from v.6 to v.7 where some functionality has been moved
from the Parallel Computing Toolkit to core Mathematica. If anyone
could provide pointers on the following questions I would be very
grateful...

1) The functionality from the legacy PCT is still there (in various
packages), but some of them (or all?) may be obsolete. Does anybody
know which functions/packages one should/should not use?
2) The PCT documentation is still only but I where can I find the
corresponding example nbs?
3) Is there any other information/tutorial available about parallel
computation with Mathematica?

TIA,
Sebastian

P.s.: Oh, and btw, is it just me or is it common that the
documentation provided by the Documentation center does not match the
information on the Wolfram website?
