These do work.  Now the mystery is how to get Mathematica to accept the change.  There is no obvious way to save an update, but there must be a way, a 
magic button, as Wolfram will be using Mathematica to generate Palettes, and the files are notebooks.

Ahh.  At the bottom of the Mathematica Palettes menu, there are some commands to manipulate palettes.  I will have to study these.
