If settings are not permanent you have to change the write permission of 
the user groups for certain directories to "All" or to install and work 
with administrator rights or set the compatiblity mode of the programs.

The underlying security directory structures and the pointers for user 
and program data are sometimes changed without notice by automatic 
windows updates or by an automatic restart after a crash.

Especially windows update installation versions over older systems tend 
to develop inconsistent directory structures.
