NEWS RELEASE
High School Grant Program Recipients Announced Wolfram Research Honors
Teachers with Mathematica Grants

Champaign, Illinois-November 5, 1997-Wolfram Research, Inc., makers of
Mathematica, the leading technical computing software system, has
announced the grant awardees of this year's High School Grant Program.
Wolfram Research is pleased to recognize and support the growing number
of educators worldwide who have implemented cutting-edge teaching
technology, such as Mathematica, into their classrooms.

The program, now in its third year, is open worldwide to precollege
(K-12) teachers and their schools. The winners were selected from over
one hundred applications received from many different countries,
including Korea, Australia, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Japan, and
the U.S. Wolfram Research's High School Grant Program is designed to
support the efforts of teachers who use Mathematica to develop
computer-based classroom materials. One of the most significant
benefits of this program is that it allows the recipients to share
their findings and experiences with other technical secondary teachers
internationally.

"The number of applications continues to grow considerably during each
year of the Program, and this year's response has been tremendous,"
said Kurt Peckman, Chair of the Grant Review Panel at Wolfram Research.
"The number of applicants reflects the caliber of our Program and it
demonstrates how computers and Mathematica have become essential tools
for elementary and secondary math students."

Grant recipients are provided with a scholarship for Mathematica
training at Wolfram Research's corporate headquarters, copies of the
Mathematica software for their school's computer lab, courseware
developer support, and technical support. In exchange, recipients
report on the implementation of Mathematica in their classrooms, and
submit the courseware they develop to Wolfram Research for worldwide
distribution to teachers.

More information about the High School Grant Program and the individual
awardees, as well as an on-line application form, can be found at
http://www.wolfram.com/news/hsrecipients.html on the World Wide Web.
Application forms are also available by contacting Kurt Peckman at
Wolfram Research at +1-217-398-0700, ext. 279.

Wolfram Research is the world's leading developer of technical computing
software. The company was founded by Stephen Wolfram in 1987 and
released the first version of its flagship product, Mathematica, on
June 23, 1988. Mathematica, the world's only fully integrated technical
computing system, is relied on today by more than a million users
worldwide in industry, government, and education. Mathematica Version 3
was released in the fall of 1996. Wolfram Research, Inc. is
headquartered in Champaign, Illinois.
