Perhaps
FrontEndExecute[ FrontEnd`HelpBrowserLookup["OtherInformation",
"Get Graphics Coordinates..."]]
will help. On a Macintosh, if you hold down the \[OptionKey] as well,
you can draw a rectangle on a graphic and paste the corners as the new
PlotRange.
