Has anybody encountered problems with Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 ? It
appears to change the way Mathlink works in Mathematica 4.0. For
example:

Install[ LinkLaunch[ prog.exe ]]

no longer works (i.e. forces the user to select the program through a
file browser) but has to be replaced by

Install[ prog.exe ]

Additionally, Mathematica 4.2 installation will not complete (after
asking whether or not I want to enter password, Mathematica fails to
launch). After starting Mathematica manually, and having entered pwd
information, JLink fails

Needs["JLink`"]

InstallJava[]

causes a file browser to pop-up and asks to select some non otherwise
specified file.

I have reported the problems to Wolfram support which seemed surprised
by this ...
