There are definitely porting issues in moving from ver 4.x to 5.x

They seem to relate to this FAQ

http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/mathematics/numerics/nsumerror.html

which states that:

You may find that certain calculations involving numerical functions such as
NSum, FindMinimum and FindRoot give warning messages in Version 5.0 which
were not present in Version 4.2 This happens because the evaluation
semantics for these functions have been changed.

What were the old evaluation semantics and what are the new ones for these
functions?

Is there any further documentation on this?
