A number of people have had trouble with the mathematica front end under solaris CDE.
In particular :error messages from fonts
and worse : crashes when using dialogues.
I (as well as the rest of the world) have not been able to get a fix from Wolfram
The problem seems to be in the the font names used by CDE
I have found the following workaround:
Put the following lines in your ~/.Xdefaults file
XMathematica*fontList: -b&h-lucida sans-medium-r-normal-sans-14-140-72-72-p-82-iso8859-1
XMathematica*labelFontList: -b&h-lucida sans-medium-r-normal-sans-14-140-72-72-p-82-iso8859-1
XMathematica*buttonFontList: -b&h-lucida sans-medium-r-normal-sans-14-140-72-72-p-82-iso8859-1
XMathematica*textFontList: -b&h-lucida sans-medium-r-normal-sans-14-140-72-72-p-82-iso8859-1
With this the front end crashes less than once per hour, no worse than under openwindows.
