Out[1]= {{-4, -2}, {-2, -1}}

In[2]:= Det[m]

Out[2]= 0

=> You have none or an infinity of solutions

In[3]:= e={{a},{b}}

Out[3]= {{a}, {b}}

In[4]:= Map[First[#]==0 &,m.e]

Out[4]= {-4 a - 2 b == 0, -2 a - b == 0}

In[5]:= Solve[%,a] //InputForm

Out[5] //InputForm= {{a -> -b/2}}
