Specialized fonts in Mathematica

I want to use a special Adobe font in Mathematica graphics.
When I specify the font as in

$TextStyle = {FontFamily->"Arial", FontSize->12};

I get the closest substitute font.

Is it possible to force a font which will not be substituted?

Do I have to specify the font directory?

Thanks,

Charles A. Judge MD
