As you may remember, I had the same problem. I have a 512 MD RAM, Pentum III
733 computer, but I didn't get results of two coupled partially differential
equations.

I have solved systems of ODEs with >250 equations AND I forced NDSolve
to keep certain extra information about previous times - it took a
while to get an answer, but I never run out of memory!
My best guess is that something else is going on, irrelevant wiht the
internals of NSolve. Send more information on the system you are
solving...
