I was thinking of writing my thesis in Mathematica(3.0 but I'm probably going to get 4.0 soon) . It has more than enough word processing and formatting options to do this but I can't figure out how to get the automatic numbering object to work(the most I've managed is getting a zero to appear next to one equation). What I need is to have a little number on the right side of the page next to each of the equations. This is impractical to do by hand since my thesis already has over 100 equtions and whenever I edit it I end up adding or deleting a few which means they have to be re-numbered(right now I am copying the equations in postscript format into a regular word processor). It would also be nice if it could automatically adjust any references to the equations when their numbers are changed. I know that LaTex can do all of this and more but then I'd have to spend time to learn it and have to re-write all my equations. It is also inconvenient to do the math in one program and the writing in another. Can anyone help me? Dustin dsoodak at virtu.sar.usf.edu
