Mathematica 3.0 finds root but Math 4.0 does not

Hi!
Using the secant method, Mathematica 3.0 produces nice results with the
FindRoot command. With the same starting values and options, FindRoot
does not converge, however, when using Mathematica 4.0. 

I also have problems with old files, because the ordering of the
(multiple) roots seems to have changed. 

Any hints or explanations?
