Re Mathematica 5.0.

How would I replace a notebook's sole GridBox[X] component with 
GridBox[Y]? 

Nested First statements have extracted X (if there's a better way, I'm 
all ears) that in turn, has been transformed to Y.  If ReplacePart is 
involved, it's role escapes me.
