Yes, of course you can save the result of a calculation. For example:

result=intensity[4.,5.]

In fact, even if you do not explicitly save your answer Mathematica 
saves it and you can use the % notation to access it. This can be 
useful, but I don't generally recommend it for routine use because if 
you re-execute the cells in a notebook in a different order '%' may 
refer to something else the next time round!
