M. v5.0: Format Size Problem

I tried to change the text size of my input line with "Format Size Larger".
That worked. But trying he same with Alt+= nothing happens.
Instead of this I see GREEK letters when typing a new input line.
This seems to be irreversible. The only workaround I could find is to
restart Mathematica.
