Numbering equations

Hello ,

I am interested in numbering equations in the following way :

chapter 1
(1.1)
(1.2)
...

chapter 2
(2.1)
(2.2)
...
etc.

Is there a simple way to do that ?

I tried all the suggestions here , and could not make it work ...
