AFAIK emacs is capable of changing the contents of a text file
(understatement of the year) ?!?

If you've got the file opened, why don't you edit it immediatelly???

I'm sure, you have got good reasons, but I've got an
"severe imagination error [Cancel][Continue][Help]". ;-)
