Ok, this begs the question - what am I missing in Workbench 1.1? I'm
switching to Mathematica 6 because we're benefiting from using Manipulate in a
lot of calculations. Anyone know what I get for all the hard work
re-installing plug-ins?

Maybe I should let someone else in our group try upgrading first!
