Suppress Minor Ticks & Point Major Ticks Outwards?

Dear MathGroup,

Minor Frame Ticks are usually not displayed in applied sciences, and,
moreover distract the eye.
How can I, in Mathematica 6, suppress Minor Frame Ticks, and let Major
Ticks point outward of a plot frame, or axes?

Kind regards,

Tom Aldenberg
