Strange font problem

Hi!

I use Mathematica 6.0.1 on 32-bits ubuntu 7.04. Since I activated
the dual screen mode, some symbols appear as boxes (like []) The
weird thing, is that it's the simpler symbols, like / or # that show
as boxes. Alpha, arrows, etc., display normally. Any clue on what
causes this ?
